Color Wrap Maintenance FAQ
A vehicle wrap is a process of covering a vehicle in a thin, malleable, adhesive vinyl film. This technique was previously most commonly used for commercial vehicles, usually to utilize the vehicle for branding and advertising purposes. Now, it is becoming increasingly popular for privately owned vehicles for aesthetic purposes. Full vehicle wraps are a great choice for any car, van or commercial vehicle. With added protective benefits, a vinyl wrap also provides a durable layer of protection to your vehicle’s bodywork at the same time!
The cost of the color wrap depends on many different factors, primarily the size of the vehicle, coverage options and the specific car film you’d like to use. There isn’t a standard price tag for a high-quality, professional car film installation. Think of it like commissioning any work of art, the range in price can be huge, depending on your specifications.
It is important that we receive the vehicle in the best possible condition before it is brought to us. If a vehicle arrives in a poor or dirty condition it will affect the timescale quoted and may require additional prep work which could lead to additional costs.
BISONX Color films are quite durable but are not built for the purpose of protection. The product durability depends on a myriad of factors such as film finish, climate, film care, and more. High speed gravel and stone chips can still affect the wrap.
Climate related issues can occur as the wrap will be damaged in prolonged high temperatures. It is highly recommended to park in a shaded area as this will increase the durability and longevity of the film.
For seaside areas or the beach, do not let salt sit on the surface of a wrap for a prolonged period of time. It can and will damage the film.
Depending on different factors, for example, climate and technique used during application. Longevity can be shortened if the film is improperly applied. Vinyl film can be a delicate product so it needs to be washed from time to time and it is also advised to use special spray on products for protection such as STARX's ProtectMaster. The lifespan of a wrap will also greatly depend on regular washing and proper maintenance.
There are several types of recommended car washes.
You can hand wash a wrapped car using neutral soap, water and a sponge. Spray on products such as STARX's CleanMaster is recommended as our formulas are specialized for our products. Another method is to use touchless car wash. Pressure washing may also be used as long as you keep the nozzle at least one meter away from the surface with a 90-degree angle tilt to it.
Never use automatic machine car washes! They can damage the vinyl film.
Polishing is not recommended. You can wax gloss wraps but should avoid doing this with satin or matte wraps.
Spray on products containing liquid wax like nano coating are fine for most types of wraps. No special after care is truly required for commercial graphics wrap. Just regular, proper car washing.
No, you are not required to inform JPJ or your insurance company of such changes, because color wrapping is not a permanent change compared to a paintjob. If you still have hesitations or concerns about any insurance issues, you may inform JPJ & your insurance company to update about your vehicle's vinyl wrap.
All wraps are 100% removable with borderline guaranteed no damage to the original paint of the car. In fact, a wrap is a great way to protect the OEM paint of your vehicle. Please note that paint can be damaged on parts that have been repaired and repainted (non-OEM paint job).
